What is Voluma XC?
Voluma XC is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler that instantly augments and enhances volume in all three regions of the cheek (apex, apple, hollow). VOLUMA XC replenishes dwindling hyaluronic acid levels, giving the facial contours a subtle, rejuvenating lift, and restoring a more youthful facial appearance that can last up to two years.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a powerfully hydrating material responsible for preserving moisture and preventing water loss from the skin. Although HA is produced naturally by the body, our HA levels decrease as we age, causing our skin to become dehydrated and to lose volume and firmness.
VOLUMA XC is safe and appropriate for use in persons of all ethnicities and races, without risk of hypertrophic scarring or hyperpigmentation. Because Voluma XC is not derived from animals, pre-treatment allergy testing is not required.
Preparation
Patients need to be aware that some medications increase the likelihood of bruising. Therefore, Dr. Marcia Byrd, M.D. advises patients to stop taking the medications listed below for 4-7 days prior to Voluma XC injections.
- Motrin, Advil, Ibroprofen, Naprosyn (or same class of anti-inflammatory medications)
- Aspirin
- Fish oils
- Vitamin E
- Glucosamine
- Ginko Biloba
- Coumadin or Lovenox (though you are more likely to bruise if you are on these, we suggest you DO NOT stop this medication, and seek your primary doctors approval)
About the Procedure
All filler treatment procedures start with either a topical anesthetic, an injection of anesthetic, or an anesthetic block to lessen or eliminate discomfort. Once the desired area is numb, Dr. Byrd will inject the filler under the skin. Multiple injections are made so the dermal filler is evenly distributed through the area. The entire procedure can be performed in less than an hour.
Recovery
Little or no anesthesia is required because the needles are so small that discomfort is minimal. There are topical anesthetic agents that can be used, depending on the patient’s preference and the sensitivity of the area being treated. Some patients may have slight swelling around the injection areas that will go away within a few hours.
Dr. Marcia Byrd and her team of experts care for patients throughout the United States and Canada. Locally, Dr. Byrd services the North Atlanta, GA area including Roswell GA, Alpharetta GA, Milton GA, Woodstock GA, Canton GA, Dunwoody GA, Sandy Springs, GA and more.
