Two Different Customized Procedures
Age and childbirth can take a toll on the body. If your weight is stable and you are close to ideal body weight, the Mini Tummy Tuck, or partial abdominoplasty, could be right for you. The traditional tummy tuck, which involves a hip-to-hip incision and repositioning of the navel, is the most commonly performed surgery; however, the mini tuck, which is less expensive and involves less downtime, can produce dramatic effects when performed on the right individual.
The Best Candidate for a Mini Tummy Tuck
The best candidate for the mini tummy tuck, often called the “scarless tummy tuck” because of its smaller incision, requires less abdominal skin to be removed and does not have a significantly protruding abdominal muscle wall. Sagging due to aging can be corrected with the mini procedure. A younger person with a slim figure who wishes to reshape and contour the lower abdomen would also benefit from the mini tummy tuck, a less-invasive surgical technique.
The mini tuck procedure begins with local anesthesia. The mini tummy tuck surgery involves a smaller incision than its traditional counterpart and it requires that a smaller section of the abdominal wall be exposed; usually, the treatment area extends from the point of incision to the navel. The mini-tuck procedure may also include liposuction to contour the abdominal area. After excess fat has been removed and the abdominal muscles have been tightened, the surgeon stretches the skin downward, cutting away any excess tissue and stitching the remaining skin into place. The surgeon may place a temporary drainage tube in the incision site.
The patient is usually released from the hospital within a few hours of mini tummy tuck surgery. The recovery time is about the same as that for liposuction. Most patients experience some postoperative pain, but it can be controlled with over-the-counter medication. Patients are usually able to return to work within a few days of getting a mini abdominoplasty but should refrain from strenuous activities for a few weeks. Recovery time varies for each patient depending on the procedures involved in the surgery.
