But let’s debunk some myths about cellulite, and then we’ll provide the light at the end of the tunnel by sharing one of the latest advancements in cellulite treatments that will have you jumping for joy. Cellulite: A quick definition
Cellulite is the name for collections of fat formed under a person’s skin, causing the surface to look lumpy. What causes this? It could be different estrogen and progesterone levels that aggravate cellulite, or it could be impacted by increased water retention, enlarged fat lobes, poor circulation, or tight connective tissue that pulls down on the skin.
Can cellulite be completely eliminated?

You’re also not alone if you’ve tried countless tricks and tips to help hide, reduce and eliminate the issue. Some cellulite-battling tips work and some are simply old wives’ tales. Myth #1: Exercise eliminates cellulite
Truth: Cellulite occurs in what experts call the “superficial fat layer,” which is located about one-half to one millimeter below the skin. “Reserve fat,” which is the reserve fat you burn with exercise, is much deeper than the superficial fat layer.
Exercise is always recommended because reducing other fat stores and toning your body will of course make you look and feel healthier. Your cellulite problem could appear to look minimized through the toning and fat reduction; however exercise won’t get rid of your cellulite because it is happening about a millimeter under the skin and the muscle is much deeper.
Myth #2: Only overweight and obese people get cellulite.
Truth: You probably know already that this is a myth! Beware size 2’s and 4’s, you are not exempt from it. Cellulite occurs when the fatty tissue immediately underneath your skin is damaged, which has nothing to do with other layers of fat or muscle.
Another factor proving that size isn’t a key determinant is that many experts say cellulite can be genetic as well, because it is heavily affected by hormones. You and the other women in your family may have similar degrees of cellulite, so make note of early signs of cellulite, and stay fit and healthy.
Myth #3: Coffee minimizes the appearance of cellulite
Truth: Put down that fifth cup of coffee and read this. While caffeine is often used to draw water out of the fat stores, it’s not the most effective method to hide cellulite.
This myth isn’t all bad. Studies show that applying liquid caffeine to the skin can help boost metabolism and burn fat. How effective it is at ridding the body of cellulite hasn’t been determined.
Myth #4: Tanning helps hide cellulite lumps
Truth: Ok, we agree that tanned fat always looks better than white fat, and cellulite is less noticeable on darker skin. Tanning can conceal the appearance of cellulite, but warned that in the long-term, UV rays weaken your skin, making it less resilient, which can actually make cellulite worse. Just another reason to be sun safe! Since tanned skin can camouflage your cellulite a bit more, try using a good sunless tanner instead of getting your tan the old-fashioned way.
Myth #5: Creams and gels are easy solutions to cellulite problems
Truth: You should have learned this lesson when you tried bust-enhancement cream in the 6th grade. If smoothing something from a tube over trouble areas could remove fat, you wouldn’t be reading this blog in the first place. Creams and tonics can give the skin a superficial tighter appearance, but have shown no dramatic long-term changes.
While creams and gels don’t eliminate cellulite, they can have other effects on your body that help hide cellulite or change the texture. Ask your doctor about a vitamin A-based product that can help thicken your skin.
Myth #6: Only women suffer from cellulite
Truth: There’s no reason to blame Eve for this one, ladies. Before you assume that this is a women-only problem, don’t detest the entire male gender for getting another break. Men with cellulite DO exist. Men do have hormone differences, and their fat cells don’t stretch as easily as women’s do, so their cellulite is not as visible. When men do have cellulite, it usually appears where they tend to gain weight the easest: on their neck or stomach, as opposed to women, who experience it most on their legs, thighs and buttocks.
