Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women
At Byrd Aesthetic & Anti-Aging Center, located in Roswell, Georgia, Dr. Marcia Byrd, M.D. understands that hormonal imbalances and/or depletion are the root causes of conditions such as PMS/PMDD, menopause/perimenopause, adrenal fatigue, and hypothyroidism. This knowledge enables her to focus on treating the actual problem, rather than simply creating temporary solutions to ease individual symptoms. Dr. Byrd utilizes medically supervised bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) to treat and correct female hormonal imbalances, and to rejuvenate and revitalize her patients, enhancing not only their aesthetic appearance, but also their emotional well-being and mental health. After evaluating your symptoms and current baseline hormone levels, Dr. Byrd will create a customized hormone supplementation strategy tailored to restore your hormones to optimal levels and your body to a state of physical health and vitality. At Byrd Aesthetic & Anti-Aging Center, we are pleased to offer the following hormone therapy services to our female patients:
- Bio-identical Estrogen and Progesterone Replacement Therapy
- Bio-identical Adrenal Hormone and Thyroid Hormone Replacement Therapy
From an early age, women are made acutely aware of the powerful impact female hormones can have on mental and physical health and emotional well-being. The shifts and changes in mood and physiology that accompany each menses serve as a constant reminder of the influential role hormones play in the functioning of the female body. However, many women are not aware of the potentially debilitating symptoms that can arise when hormones become imbalanced, depleted, or do not function properly.
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD—a severe form of PMS): are examples of disorders that can occur when a woman’s brain responds abnormally to monthly hormone fluctuations. Although the precise cause of PMS and PMDD is unknown, it is believed that these conditions result from the faulty interaction of estrogen and progesterone with the neurotransmitters (chemical messengers) in the brain. Every woman has a unique ratio of estrogen and progesterone that ebbs and flows to create her menstrual cycle. When this ratio is thrown off balance, it can cause up to 200 known PMS/PMDD symptoms, including: fatigue, irritability, headaches, bloating, insomnia, anxiety and depression.
Menopause and perimenopause (the transitional time period prior to menopause when female hormone levels begin to decrease): represent the conditions that occur when female hormone levels become depleted as a result of the natural progression of aging. These conditions are accompanied by a host of challenging physical and emotional symptoms, including, but not limited to: hot flashes, vaginal dryness, menstrual irregularity, mood changes, bone density loss, and insomnia. Women can also experience problematic symptoms when the adrenal and thyroid hormones become imbalanced or depleted. Adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism (low thyroid function) are conditions that arise when the female body is unable to effectively respond to stressful situations, and can lead to symptoms such as: exhaustion, malaise, depression, weight gain, diminished sex drive, and acne.
